Sometimes, I allow myself the gift of hindsight by fast-forwarding 20 years ahead in my life and looking back on the time I am currently in. What do I see? Am I proud of the choices I made? Did I cherish the moments that mattered? Did I live with intention, or did I let time slip by, always waiting for the "right moment" or for things to be lined up perfectly to start truly living?

I have always had an intrinsic drive to live life differently, to question why we do things a certain way, and to seek out ways to improve and live with deeper purpose. I am terrified of looking back on my life and seeing that I just followed the “normal way” without questioning whether it was right for me. Do things really have to be done a certain way just because they always have been? We only have one life, and the thought of living one that doesn’t feel purposeful or aligned with my values is a big driving force for me. I want to create a life without restrictions that don’t serve me. This may sound idealistic, but I have a deep conviction about living life to the fullest and not getting stuck in routines that don’t align with what truly matters.

I am always taking stock of my life, adjusting, adding, or subtracting what isn’t working or moving me closer to the life I desire. Reflection isn’t just about dreaming—it’s about making intentional changes to ensure that I am living in alignment with what I truly value.

These are some of the questions that I often have at the front of my mind:

  • Am I truly living according to the values that I hold?

  • Am I rushing through or wishing away the days by being too future-focused?

  • Am I utilising my time wisely for the values I hold?

  • Looking back over the past 20 years, what regrets do I have, and how can I prevent them from shaping my next 20 years?

Living with this level of awareness requires balancing deep reflection with practical action. I am a dreamer, but also very pragmatic. I need to see the practicalities and the steps it will take to get there, not just the overall dream. It’s about turning insight into daily habits and choices that shape the kind of life I want to build.

These are some of the practicalities I ask myself and work towards when creating my rhythm:

  • Defining and clarifying my values: What truly matters to me, and how can I ensure my actions align with these values?

  • Defining the life I want for my family: What kind of experiences, memories, and home environment do I want to create for my loved ones?

  • Assessing daily habits: Are my daily routines and commitments reflecting what I say is important?

  • Letting go of societal expectations: Am I living my own truth, or am I simply following what’s expected?

  • Making bold choices: Am I afraid to take risks, or am I pursuing the things that will bring long-term fulfilment?

  • Allowing for flexibility and growth: Am I willing to evolve and make changes when something no longer serves me?

These are profound questions, and there’s so much to explore when it comes to turning these reflections into a meaningful, intentional life. While I could dive deep into each aspect, for now, let’s focus on the practical side—creating rhythms as a mother that will shape your family’s daily life and help you build a home that aligns with your values and vision.
